The decision to remodel your kitchen can be a difficult one. After all, this is one of the most important rooms in your house and undertaking a lengthy remodelling project can be daunting.

While some remodelling projects are purely for cosmetic reasons, sometimes your kitchen gives you signs that scream, “I need a change”.  The oft-ignored part of the kitchen—the flooring—is exposed to an inordinate amount of wear and damage throughout its life. After all, this part of the house sees the most amount of foot traffic, spillages, and damage.

If you’ve been putting off a kitchen remodel or think you don’t need one, here are some signs to look out for that might convince you otherwise:

Your Needs Have Changed

Sure, you were a family of two when you bought this house and the kitchen sufficed the weekly meal-prep and daily breakfast chores. Now that your family has expanded, the kitchen just can’t withstand the increasing use.

As your family’s needs change like the addition of a child or pet you might need to switch to more durable flooring options.

Water Damaged Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the few rooms in your home that’s exposed to water and its damaging effects. As plumbing fixtures break or your roof or sink tends to leak, it can cause lasting damage to your kitchen’s flooring.

Failure to fix the source of the damage will lead to long-lasting harm to the floorboards or tiles. More often than not, this kind of damage requires you to replace the entire floor.

Wooden floors, for example, are prone to sustaining damage if the issue is left unaddressed. The wooden floorboards can rot from the water and moisture they retain.

It’s Outdated Design

As a homeowner, you don’t only want your house to be functional, you want it to look beautiful too. Considering how often you use your kitchen, you’ll want it to look beautiful and modern as well.

Elevate the kitchen’s look by swapping out the traditional flooring and replacing it with more modern options. Update the look of your kitchen with durable materials, come in a variety of colours and patterns, and are easy to maintain. It’s an investment you won’t regret!

Deterioration

While you may not have paid heed to small scratches and chips on your floor as they happened, these things can creep up on you. Cracks and chips are the kind of damage that worsens over time. The more you leave your kitchen floor unmaintained, the more it’s prone to degeneration.

If you notice your kitchen’s floors are damaged and unsightly, you should consider a remodelling project. Not only do cracked floors ruin the look of your kitchen, they will also continue to worsen until you’ve fixed them.
